Read 180 Next Generation
Mrs. Bernier and Mrs. Adams are the READ 180 Next Generation teachers for Esperanza. READ 180 Next Generation is a comprehensive reading intervention program implemented in the Deer Valley school district at our Title One elementary, middle, and high schools. The program is designed for those students reading below grade level in grades 4 through 12 as measured by their Spring AIMS. By actively engaging the student daily in accelerated learning at their individual reading level, it enables struggling readers to experience success. Within the program, there are computer assessments to identify a student's reading needs and then make instructional adjustments. Effective teaching and learning occurs daily in reading for comprehension and fluency, word study and spelling, vocabulary and writing.

- 30 minutes of direct instruction in spelling and vocabulary with the W.T.W. program that is individual according to an initial assessment
- 20 minutes of Whole Group instruction in reading, writing, and vocabulary to the class using highly engaging strategies so all students participate
- 3 Small Group rotations for 20 minutes each in the following areas: a) Independent computer (Student Dashboard) software practice for intensive, individualized skills practice using a variety of topics to learn b) Small group direct instruction using the student rBook and differentiating instruction when working closely with students so that individual needs can be met c) Modeled and independent reading to build fluency and comprehension using motivating paperbacks and also audiobooks to listen and read along with the help of a reading coach selected by the students that are not at their reading levels.
